Introducing the world’s most accurate optical sensing platform.

Philips optical biometric sensing offers accuracy and latency comparable to chest-strap (ECG) systems—in a wrist-worn or head-mounted device.

That accuracy is based on our deep experience in advanced healthcare biometrics technology. In fact, the most popular and respected consumer-products companies already integrate Philips wearable sensing technology to capture new markets.

Engage with us to shape the future of wearables in your customers’ lives in three target markets:

  • Exercise
  • Wellness
  • Health

Superior technology from a healthcare leader

Rivaling chest-strap accuracy with the improved comfort

Wearable sensing technology is based on optical biometric monitoring, unlike the ECG sensing done by chest-strap devices. The Philips sensing platform uses an optical sensor to accurately track blood volume variations and an accelerometer to track body motion. A proprietary algorithm extracts and processes the sensing data, factoring out body motion, pigmentation, and ambient lighting to produce highly accurate results.

“Seeing” the heart rate:

LEDs on the back of the wearable device shine through the skin to blood vessels just below. A photodiode reads the reflected light. Variations are amplified and the signal is digitized.

Reading motion

a separate motion sensor monitors the vigorous movements made during exercise, which would otherwise create misreads.

Calculating actual heart rate

Philips proprietary algorithms compensate for exercise-related blood surges that would otherwise skew the results.

Where your markets will be, so will we

Philips anticipates consumer health and wellness needs, and leads in developing the driving technology to get there first.

Exercise

Fitness users need accurate performance data to enhance workout results.

Wellness

Healthy users need to track daily activity to monitor status and improvement and to prevent illness.

Health

Adults at risk or ill need to track vital signs to monitor disease and its progression.
